ABOUT POWER WOODWORK
Power Woodwork is a group of designers, artisans and crafters based in Thailand who bring out the beauty in tropical hardwoods by turning them into solid wood furniture. We custom make stand-alone woodwork such as live edge tables. We also create and install built-in furniture for both homes and commercial spaces from coffee shops to offices.
By conserving and recycling wood that we reclaim from around Thailand, we are able to source hard-to-find legacy hardwoods such as Rosewood or Teak.
Our experienced woodworkers take every project through each step of the process to ensure the woodwork we deliver is ready for years of use.
how we started - and our mission
The thinking behind our business started not in Thailand, but in a remote longhouse deep in the middle of Borneo. Brian Power, a co-founder of the business, was living among the indigenous Iban people, who were totally dependent on the surrounding forest for their food, their medicine and way of life.
The lesson from it all was to tread carefully on how we use the forest and its trees. One result is a woodworks in Thailand that builds with older legacy slabs or discarded wood from arborists in Thailand.
The partnership includes TMR International Co., Ltd., which has a solid track record of building wood products in Thailand for more than three decades. The business includes a commercial kiln operation to dry our wood for the climates in Europe, the Americas and Middle East.
Collaborating with designers
We enjoy the opportunities to be creative with wood. We work with several designers from both Thailand and overseas countries to create and build out new solid wood products from our reclaimed wood.
The side table shown right is part of a new series of solid hardwood furniture created with a European designer and built in our workshop. The curves of these pieces are all rounded by hand, giving every piece a unique feel and identity.
There are few furniture builders in our region like us, working only with solid wood rather than including composites or veneers. We are happy to work with architects and furniture designers looking for unique solid woodworks for homes or commercial spaces.
